Geofire: Shut Up and Listen

“Listen and Learn” technology.

This is not some new breed of dog trained to react at the sound of the alarm. Instead, it is a new breed of technology designed to do exactly that. The devices “learn” the sound of your specific fire alarm once they have been installed – which, has anyone mentioned, is quick and painless to do as there are no wires? – and then are programmed to only react to the noise of your fire alarm.

The benefits might be obvious. But this system reduces the amount of false closures and false alarms dramatically. Other devices might be triggered by noise in general, meaning any sort of alarm or loud bang may be enough to trigger the door. This can cause problems in a community building where access needs to be maintained at all times as a randomly closing door could prove to be a nuisance at best and cause an injury in a worst case scenario. Instead, you can rest assured that the door will only shut at the specific sound of your fire alarm.

The acoustic technology has been applied to a door holder, door closer and a pillow pad so far. All of these are triggered by the sound of the fire alarm, and the fire alarm only. In the case of the doors, the products then release the doors, controlling the way they are shut and ensuring that flames cannot spread because of an open door. The pillow pad vibrates and flashes lights at a high intensity to inform a hard of hearing user that the alarm is sounding.

So fire doors can be left open without worry and you do not need to be concerned that your loved one won’t hear their alarm. The best thing of all is that you know there won’t be any scares due to the door closing on its own accord as it is programmed to only react to the sound of your fire alarm.
